Salisbury Steak Recipes

1 (10 1/2 oz.) can condensed onion soup
1 1/2 lb. ground beef
1/2 cup fine dry bread crumbs
1 egg, slightly beaten
1/4 cup ketchup
1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
1/2 tsp. prepared mustard
1/4 cup water
1 Tbsp. flour
1/4 tsp. salt
Freshly ground black pepper


Mix thoroughly 1/3 cup soup, beef, bread crumbs, egg, salt and pepper. Shape into 6 oval patties.

In skillet, brown patties (use shortening if necessary); pour off fat. Add remaining soup, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce and mustard.

Gradually blend water into flour until smooth. Stir into soup mixture. Cover; cook over low heat 20 minutes or until done. Stir occasionally.

Makes 6 servings.



Recipe II

1 pound lean ground beef
1/3 cup finely chopped onion
1/4 cup saltine cracker crumbs
1 egg white, slightly beaten
2 tablespoons milk
1 tablespoon prepared horseradish
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1 jar (12 ounces) mushroom gravy


In a medium bowl combine ground beef, onion, cracker crumbs, egg white, milk, horseradish, salt and pepper, mixing lightly but thoroughly. Shape into four oval 1/2 inch thick patties.

Heat large nonstick skillet over medium heat until hot. Place beef patties in skillet; cook 7 to 8 minutes or until no longer pink, turning once.

Add jar of mushroom gravy and heat through.
