Gyoza (Fried Wonton)

1/2 lb. lean ground beef
1/2 lb. ground pork (or use the meatloaf mix that a local grocery store sells that is 2/3 beef and 1/3 pork in 1 package)
2 tbsp. grated fresh ginger
1/4 cup minced green onion
2 cups minced Chinese cabbage
1 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper

Thaw 1 package wonton skins.

Thoroughly mix first seven ingredients. Place 1 scant teaspoon in center of skin. Moisten edges of skin with water and lap opposite sides over meat to form a triangle (or half circle, depending on shape of skin).

To steam fry: Heat just enough oil to coat bottom of frying pan over medium high heat. Place single layer of gyoza in pan. Brown, turn over to brown other side. When browned, quickly pour 1/3 cup water over gyoza and cover pan. Cook until all water has evaporated.

To deep fry: Heat oil in deep fryer to 350. Drop gyoza into oil, do not crowd. Fry until brown, turn to brown other side. Drain on paper towels.
