Chinese-Style Ribs

1/2 cup butter or margarine
1 clove garlic (minced)
1 envelope onion soup mix
1 can (16 oz.) tomato sauce
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup white vinegar
1/4 cup chili sauce
5 lbs. ribs


Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

In a large saucepan, melt butter and cook garlic with onion soup mix over medium heat until garlic is golden. Stir in tomato sauce, sugar, soy sauce, vinegar and chili sauce. Bring to a boil, then simmer, stirring occasionally, 15 minutes.

Meanwhile, in large aluminum-foil-lined baking pan, arrange ribs and bake for 20 minutes. Brush ribs generously with sauce, then continue baking, brushing occasionally with remaining sauce, 50 minutes or until ribs are done.
