Grandma Seigfried's Torte

My grandma's Torte

I am posting a very special recipe. It is my grandmothers Hungarian Torte.
It isn't for those on very restricted diets...it is loaded with all those
things they say stay away from. But it is so good...and so special..a little
bit now and then won't hurt anyone.

I am leaving in the Fluffo Item. It was a crisco type shortening and I
don't even know if they make it anymore. But it reminds me of Grandma as
everything was made with Fluffo.

My grandmothers taught me how to cook...and my Grandmother Seigfried taught
me baking...so I was the designated Torte Maker for a long time. You have
no idea how hard this recipe was to get as my grandmother did everything
with hands for measuring.

My grandmother was the best. She would always make me feel special. I
loved her dearly. I feel like I am betraying my other grandparents now.
hahahaha They were wonderful and taught me about gardens and planting and
canning. oh those canning days. EVERYTHING got canned. My grandma Schleis
lived across the street from the railroad and marked her steps with an X.
That told the bums they could come there and get a free meal.

Grandma and Grandpa Schleis had hearts of gold and fed everyone. But you
know they fed themselves. I mean they canned things and lived on that and
the chickens in the yard and rarely bought food from the grocery. This is
getting away from my Grandmothers Torte. Hope you enjoy it... and if you
make it ... say a little prayer for her.
