Chicken Mole

1 - 2 1/2 to 3 lb. broiler-fryer chicken, cut up
2 tbsp. butter
1/4 cup finely chopped onion
1/4 cup finely chopped green pepper
1 clove garlic, minced
1 (7 1/2 oz.) can tomatoes, cut up
1/2 cup beef broth
2 tsp. sugar
1/4 of a square (1/4 oz.) unsweetened chocolate
1/2 tsp. chili powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1/8 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/8 tsp. ground nutmeg
dash ground cloves
dash bottled hot pepper sauce
2 tbsp. cold water
1 tbsp. cornstarch

In large skillet, brown chicken pieces in hot butter for 15 minutes. Season chicken with a little salt and pepper. Remove from skillet; set chicken pieces aside.

In same skillet, cook onion, green pepper, and garlic in pan drippings till vegetables are tender. Add undrained tomatoes, beef broth, sugar, chocolate, chili powder, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and hot pepper sauce. Stir to combine ingredients and melt chocolate. Add chicken; cover and reduce heat. Cook about 45 minutes or till chicken is tender.

Transfer chicken to a heated serving platter; keep warm. Combine cold water and cornstarch; stir into sauce. Cook and stir till thickened and bubbly. Cook and stir 2 minutes more. Pour sauce over chicken.
