A & P Spanish Bar Cake
4 cups water
2 cups raisins
1 cup shortening
2 cups sugar
2 tsp. baking soda
4 cup flour
1 tsp. ground cloves
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. allspice
1/2 tsp. salt
2 eggs, beaten
1 cup nuts
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Add water to raisins and boil 10 minutes.
Add shortening and allow to cool.
Sift together sugar, soda, flour, spices and salt and add nuts.
To dry ingredients, add cooled raisin mixture and blend well.
Add beaten eggs and stir well.
Bake at 350 degrees in two 10 x 13-inch pans for 35 minutes. Frost if desired with powdered sugar icing.
