Italian Tomato Sauce

1 (24 oz.) can crushed Italian tomatoes
1 (6 oz.) can tomato paste
1 small onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, peeled and minced
1 to 1-1/2 lbs. ground sirloin
2 tsp. sugar
salt and pepper
2 tsp. dried basil
1 Bay leaf
1 tsp. celery salt
1 cube beef bouillon
1 tbsp. margarine
1 tbsp. olive oil

(Reduced-sodium tomatoes, paste and bouillon can be used to lower amount of sodium.)

Brown onion and garlic in olive oil and margarine, then add ground sirloin. Mix well while browning, separating meat with a fork. Do this until meat is well-browned, then add tomatoes and tomato paste.

Over low heat, add salt and pepper to taste, basil, sugar, beef bouillon cube, celery salt and Bay leaf. Cook over low heat for about one hour. Stir occasionally to avoid sticking.

Remove Bay leaf before serving.
