Spaghetti Sauce
1 (28 oz.) can crushed peeled tomatoes or 2 (1-lb.) cans mashed tomatoes
1 (12 oz.) can tomato paste
1 (16 oz.) can tomato sauce
2 cups hot water
1 Tbsp. Italian seasoning
1 tsp. oregano
1/2 tsp. basil
1/4 to 1/2 tsp. crushed red pepper
1/8 tsp. black pepper
1 tsp. salt (or to taste)
1 to 1 1/2 lbs. ground beef
6 Italian sausages (mild/spicy), in bite-sized pieces, or 1 to 1 1/2 lb. ground Italian sausage
1 large onion, diced
1 large green pepper, chopped
1/2 lb. mushrooms, sliced
2 or 3 cloves garlic, peeled and diced (or to taste)
Combine all ingredients except meat and vegetables.
Allow to simmer on low heat for an hour or longer.
While simmering, brown ground beef and sausage; drain and add to tomato mixture. Add vegetables and simmer until vegetables are tender. Serve over cooked pasta.
