Baklava

2 cups walnuts, ground coarsley
2 cups ground almonds
2 cups fine breadcrumbs
2 Tbl. sesame seeds, browned
1/4 cup sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
1 lb. margarine or butter
1 lb. phyllo (strudel dough)


Preheat oven to 350° F. and mix the first 7 ingredients together.

Melt 1 lb. margarine or butter. Grease a 9x13 pan and line with 5 layers phyllo, sprinkle with a thin layer of nut mixture and then sprinkle over that a little of the butter.

Top with a layer of phyllo. Keep repeating---nut mixture, butter, phyllo until all of the mixture is used up, finish with 5 layers of phyllo on the top. Cut in angles to form diamonds. First ////// then crossing these \\\\\. Do this before baking.

Pour remaining melted butter over all the Baklava and bake at 350' for 1 hour and 15 minutes.


Syrup:
2 cups honey
2 cups sugar
1 1/2 cups water
Juice of 1 lemon


Boil together for 10 minutes. Pour hot syrup over cooled Baklava. Allow to stand several hours or overnight before serving.
