Cornmeal Pastry

3 cups All-purpose flour
2/3 cup Cornmeal
1 tsp. Salt
1 cup Shortening
1/2 cup Ice water
1 Egg, beaten
1 tbl. Water


Preheat oven to 400° F.

Combine flour, cornmeal and salt in a bowl. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add ice water, a little at a time, until dough forms a ball. Cover and let rest for 10 minutes. Bake for 25-30 minutes at 400º F. until lightly browned.
