Caramel Crumble Apple Pie
5 1/2 cups tart apples, peeled and sliced
1/4 to 1/2 cup water
1 (9") pie shell, unbaked
3/4 cup sugar
3/4 cup graham cracker crumbs
1 Tblsp. flour
1 tsp. apple pie spice
1/2 cup chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans or whatever)
1/3 cup butter or margarine, melted
caramel ice cream topping
Preheat oven to 425° F.
In a large pan, combine apples and water. Bring to a boil. Continue to boil
for 1 minute. Remove from heat and allow to cool (if in a hurry pour
onto a cookie pan with a rim around to to allow to cool faster).
Meanwile combine remaining ingredients (except for caramel topping) until
it looks like coarse cornmeal.
Spoon the cooled apples into unbaked pie shell. Sprinkle crumb mixture over
top. Bake at 425* for 10 min. Reduce temp to 350* and bake for 20 more minutes or until apples are fork tender.
Pour caramel ice cream topping over pie; bake about 10 min more or until
caramel begins to bubble at edge of pie. Cool or serve warm with ice cream.
