Sauce: Pizza Filling

Pizza Filling

1 tablespoon salad oil
1/4 cup coarsely chopped onion
1 can (1 lb. 3 oz) whole tomatoes
1 can (8oz) tomato sauce
1 small bay leaf
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon dried oregano leaves
Dash pepper
(1/2 teaspoon crushed garlic)


Slowly heat oil in 2-quart saucepan. In it, saute onion until golden.

Drain tomatoes, reserving liquid. Crush tomatoes with pastry blender or fork.

In saucepan, combine tomato pulp and reserved liquid with remaining ingredients, over medium heat, bring to boiling. Reduce heat, and simmer, sitrring occasionally, 30 minutes. Remove bay leaf

Note: Use 1 1/3 cup Pizza Filling for each pizza (12-inch).
