Gedempte Chicken

1 frying chicken -- 3 pounds
1 tsp salt
1/8 tsp white pepper
1/4 cup fat
1 cup onion -- diced
1/2 cup boiling water
1 (15.5 oz) can tomato sauce with mushrooms


Cut the chicken into serving pieces. Season the chicken with the salt and pepper.

In a deep skillet, heat the fat over medium-high heat. Add the chicken pieces and brown lightly on all sides.

Add the onions; continue to cook until the onions are tender but not brown. Add the water; cover and simmer for 10 minutes. Add the tomato sauce.

Cover again and cook for 20 minutes or until the chicken is tender. Turn the chicken once during the last stage of the cooking.

Serves 4-6.
