Bread and Butter Pickles
1 gallon sliced ( med-sized) pickling cukes
3 white onions sliced
1 qt. cider vinegar ( 5%)
4 cups sugar
1/4 cup Kosher salt, ground
1 1/2 T turmeric
1 tsp celery seed
1 tsp mustard seed
Layer the cukes and onions in a large bowl or small crock. Mix together the remaining ingred. and bring to a boil in a stainless steel pan and simmer 5 min. Cool
Pour over cukes. Put into several qt jars. Refrigerate for 5-7 days. They will keep for months (if they last) in the fridge.
