German Cabbage Slaw 
1 large head cabbage 
1 large red onion 
1 cup sugar 
1 cup vinegar 
1 teaspoon prepared mustard 
1 1/2 teaspoons salt 
1 teaspoon celery seed 
1 tablespoon sugar 
1 cup oil 
Cut cabbage and onion in thin slices. Place in bowl and cover with sugar. Bring to a boil all remaining ingredients except the oil. Remove from heat, add oil and bring to boil again. Pour liquid over vegetables, mash flat with a plate, cover and refrigerate. Drain to serve. 
This recipe keeps for 2 weeks and serves 12.
