Circus Peanut Jello Salad

7 1/2 ounces orange circus peanuts
2 cups boiling water
1 3/4 cups mandarin orange
1 package orange Jello
1 (16 oz.)can mandarin oranges, drained
2 cups Cool Whip
Cut circus peanuts into small pieces. Dissolve jello in the boiling water. Add circus peanut pieces, stirring until dissolved.
Drain the syrup from the mandarin oranges, adding enough cold water to equal 1 3/4 cups liquid.
Add to jello mixture;
chill until partially set.
Stir together the oranges an whipped topping; fold into the Jello mixture. Pour into a 13x9-inch casserole. Chill until firm.
*A 16-oz. can of crushed pineapple can be substituted for the oranges.
