Barbecue Sauce
46 oz. can tomato juice
4 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
1 c. wine or water
1/2 c. lemon juice
2 Tbsp. Karo syrup (white)
1 1/2 tsp. Tabasco sauce
4 Tbsp. onion flakes
2 c. catsup
1/2 c. vinegar
2 c. brown sugar
2 Tbsp. chili powder
4 Tbsp. liquid smoke
Mix and simmer 15 minutes. Makes large batch that freezes well.
Texas Barbecue Sauce
2 Tbsp. brown sugar
1 Tbsp. paprika
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. dry mustard
1/4 tsp. chili powder
dash of cayenne pepper
2 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
1/4 c. vinegar
1/4 c. ketchup
1/2 c. water
1 c. tomato juice
Simmer about 15 minutes.
Grandma’s Barbecue Sauce
(Family Recipe 100 Years Old)
2 Tbsp. brown sugar
1 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. chili powder
2 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
1 c. tomato juice
1 Tbsp. paprika
1 tsp. dry mustard
1/8 tsp. cayenne pepper
1/4 c. vinegar
1/4 c. catsup
1/2 c. water
Combine all ingredients in saucepan. Simmer until thickened. Keeps well covered in refrigerator. Good on all sorts of meats.
Barbecue Sauce
1 onion, chopped
1 1/3 Tbsp. salt
2 Tbsp. fat
1/2 green pepper
1 c. celery, chopped
1 tsp. chili powder
2 Tbsp. vinegar
2 Tbsp. brown sugar
1 dash of cinnamon or nutmeg
Cook green peppers, onions and celery until transparent. Add the rest of the ingredients and simmer 30 minutes.
Add the following:
4 Tbsp. lemon juice
1/2 tsp. prepared mustard
2 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
1 1/2 c. tomato juice
1 1/2 c. tomato catsup
Simmer 10 minutes more.
