Doggie Cookies

2-1/2 cups whole wheat flour
1/2 cup powdered milk
1/2 tsp. garlic powder
1 Tblsp. brown sugar
6 Tblsp. butter or shortening
1 egg beaten
1/2 cup cold beef or chicken broth


Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Combine flour, milk, garlic powder and sugar. Cut in butter or shortening. Mix in beaten egg and enough broth to make a ball. Pat dough out on floured board to thickness of 1/2" and cut with cookie or biscuit cutter. Bake on cookie sheet at 350 degrees F. for 25 minutes. Cool completely.



Doggie Treats

1 cup rolled oats
1/3 cup chicken fat (or shortening)
1-1/2 cup boiling chicken broth
3/4 cup cornmeal
1 tsp. sugar
2 tsp. instant chicken bouillon
4 oz. (1 cup) shredded cheddar cheese
1 egg, beaten
2 to 3 cups whole wheat flour


Heat oven 325 F. and grease cookie sheet.

In large bowl, combine rolled oats, chicken fat, and boiling stock, let stand 10 minutes. Stir in cornmeal, sugar, bouillon, cheese and egg; mix well.

Lightly spoon flour into measuring cup, level off. Add flour, 1 cup at a time, mix well after each cup to form a stiff dough. On floured surface, knead in remaining flour until dough is smooth and no longer sticky 3 to 4 minutes.

Roll or pat out dough to 1/2-in. thick. Cut with bone-shaped cookie cutter. Place 1 inch apart on cookie sheet. Bake at 325 for 35 to 45 minutes or until golden brown. Cool completely. Store loosely covered.

Makes 3-1/2 dozen large, or 8 dozen small biscuits.



Doggie-Bone Treats

1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup whole wheat flour
1/2 cup wheat germ
1/2 cup powdered milk
3 Tblsp. Vegetable shortening
1 tsp. Brown sugar
1/2 tsp. Salt
1/3 cup water
1 egg


Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. and coat a cookie sheet with nonstick cooking spray.

In a large bowl, combine flours, wheat germ, powdered milk, shortening, sugar, and salt; mix until crumbly. Add water and egg; mix well.

On a lightly floured surface, knead dough until smooth. Using a rolling pin, roll to 1/2-inch thickness. Using a dog bone-shaped cookie cutter, cut out biscuits. Place on the cookie sheet and bake 25 to 30 minutes, or until browned. Transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Store in an airtight container.



Pupcicles

1 banana
1/4 cup wheat germ
1/4 cup chopped peanuts (unsalted)
1/2 cup peanut butter


Using a fork, mash together the banana and peanut butter. Mix in the wheat germ. Refrigerate until firm (approximately 1 hour).

Roll rounded teaspoonfuls of the mixture into balls. Roll the balls in the peanuts until coated. Freeze on cookie sheet, when completely frozen store in airtight container in the freezer.
