Popcorn Balls

4 quarts popped corn
2 cups coarsely chopped pecans
1 stick butter
1 stick margarine
1 1/3 cups sugar
3/4 cup light corn syrup
1 teaspoon vanilla


Mix first two ingredients in a 6 quart mixing bowl.

Melt butter in small heavy saucepan and add sugar and corn syrup. Bring to a boil stirring and simmer 4 minutes. Add vanilla and blend well.

Pour over popcorn and nuts mixing constantly. Let stand 2 minutes to cool. With dampened hands in cold water shape into 2 1/2 inch balls and arrange on a baking sheet to set. Wrap in plastic wrap and store in a cool dry place.

Makes about 20.

1 (8 oz.) jar dry roasted peanuts may be substituted.
