This is a recipe taken from "Edna Staebler's" Vegetables with Schmecks Appeal from Waterloo, Ontario, (Mennonite Country)
Mother’s Hot Slaw
3 to 4 tbl. butter or margarine
1/8 to 1/4 of a cabbage (depending on number of people)
1/2 tsp. sugar
1/4 tsp. salt
dash pepper
2 tsp. vinegar
1/2 cup sour cream
Melt butter or margarine in bottom of a heavy pot.
Cut cabbage in 1/4 inch slices, always across the spines. Put the lid on the pot, cook for about 15 minutes, on low setting, check occasionally and give it a stir.
Meanwhile in a cup combine sugar, salt, pepper, vinegar, and sour cream.
When the cabbage is crisply soft, stir in the sour cream mixture, add additional pepper to taste.
