1 large can sauerkraut, drained and rinsed
1 large onion, sliced thinly
2 red apples
2 Tbsp. brown sugar
1 Tsp. caraway seeds (optional)
Mix sauerkraut and onion in heavy pot; add about 1/2 cup water and cook, covered, until onion is soft and translucent -- at least 1/2 hour.
Dice apple (leave skin on) and add to sauerkraut, along with sugar and optional seeds.
Cook, uncovered, 15 - 20 min., or until most of moisture has evaporated.
