Green Beans with Mushrooms for Easter

1 pound sliced mushrooms
1 medium onion, sliced
1/2 cup butter
1/4 cup flour
2 cups warm milk
1 cup light cream
3/4 pound cheddar cheese, diced
1/8 teas. Tabasco
2 teas. soy sauce
1/2 teas. pepper
3 pkgs. French style green beans, cooked and drained
5 ounce can water chestnuts, sliced
1/2 to 3/4 cup toasted slivered almonds


Saute mushrooms and onion in butter. Add flour and cook until smooth. Add milk and cream and stir until smooth. Add cheese, Tabasco, soy sauce, pepper and simmer until cheese is melted. Add beans and water chestnuts. Pour in shallow casserole and over with almonds. Bake 20 minutes at 375 degrees. Serves 10 to 12.
